The Bulls
We currently have two registered Black Angus bulls from Bear Mountain Angus that we use to pasture breed our cows. These two bulls sire consistent calves that have done quite well in the feedlot. When we say consistent we mean that the calves are consistent in weight, build, growth, etc. You look at a group of their offspring and you can tell that they are related. We are happy to announce that the 2009 calves were put in a natural beef program so we are excited to see how offspring from these two bulls do under these conditions. We hope they do just as well, if not better, than offspring from our other bulls under similar conditions.
Following are two bulls that we owned who helped mould our breeding program.
Leachman New Design 3009J
Leachman New Design 3009J (left as a 3-year-old) was a Bon View New Design 1407 (right) son with low birth (+1.9) and explosive weaning (47) and yearling (86) EPDs. Leachman New Design 3009J had a superb temperament and could be moved on foot. He put beautiful distinctive babies on the ground who were fast growing with wonderful temperaments -- easy to work on foot and horseback. His calves excelled in the feedlot (many with CAB grading) and as natural beef. Sadly, we had to say good bye to "Arnold" in the spring of 2007 because an old hip injury finally had him so crippled it was getting too hard to move. Arnold was so fertile that even as a cripple he managed to breed about 45 cows in a relatively short period of time during his last breeding season. View his EPDs here.
Thomas Precision E161 1132
Thomas Precision E161 1132 (shown left) was a son of the popular Twin Valley Precision E161 and was out of a Sitz Traveler 8180 daughter. Thomas Precision E161 1132 sported a birth EPD of -1.6 & a yearling EPD of +78. His calf crops were lightweight at birth and grew vigorously! They also exceled in the feedlot. We retained some of his offspring as replacement heifers. View his EPDs here.
The Cows
Our cows were originally selected from three different sources, Noah's AngusRanch (Cambridge, ID), Thomas Angus (Baker, OR) and the former Van Nice Angus Ranch (Silver Star, MT), for their dispositions; good udders; calving ease; conformation; ability to reproduce and improve themselves; and easy fleshing. These ladies are daughters of SAF Fame (right
), Leachman Delegate, Connealy Dateline 62 (middle right), B/R New Design 036, Thomas Latigo, GDAR Traveler, N Bar Explosion, VDAR Lucys Boy, Schoenes Fix It 826, RR Traveler 5204 (bottom right),
N BAR Emulation EXT (bottom left) and many others. In addition, we have offspring of our own Leachman New Design 3009J (2005 calf pictured left with 1st calf heifer mother) and Thomas Precision E161 1132.
The female families include Choice, Blackberry, Blackbird, Erica, Ester, Lucy, Rosegay and others. These ladies are producing great replacement heifers, bull calves and feeders. They are also producing calves who excel in the feedlot and who ALWAYS grade out Choice or higher. Our females are excellent mothers and are easy to work. These are profitable cattle for a diversified marketplace. View our females EPDs in PDF format here.
We are proud that one of
our cows achieved Pathfinder status from the American Angus Association.
